2026
The year unfolds as a convergence of theatre, concert work and international collaborations.

At its core, Lady Oscar Salomé continues its stage life in Mexico City, marking an important moment in my work as stage director. In parallel, new music theatre projects emerge, including Harry’s Bar, developed with Nicholas Isherwood as part of an ongoing artistic collaboration.

My music also returns to Portugal through a first collaboration with ars ad hoc, while new works take shape in close dialogue with performers such as Miquel Bernat and Alberto Rosado, leading to a world premiere in Spain.

At the same time, I continue performing the microtonal harp of Julián Carrillo, together with my colleagues Juan Felipe Waller and Andrés Solís, in a concert to be presented at the ALEPH Festival in Mexico City.

This year will also mark my first exhibition at the Museo Carrillo Gil in Mexico City, where I will present a series of graphic scores and sound sculptures, expanding my work into a visual and spatial dimension.

Lady Óscar Salomé (Theatre)

In this project, I join as stage director to a work written and performed by Yuriria Fanjul, with music by Rogelio Sosa. Lady Oscar Salomé unfolds as a space of tension where history, identity and desire intersect through a contemporary perspective.

The work draws on the figure of Oscar Wilde, the presence of Lady Esperanza—his mother—and Salomé, his most iconic play, creating a layered dialogue between biography, fiction and symbolic imagery.

For me, this project represents an important moment in my development as a stage director, exploring the relationship between voice, body and sound within a precise and open scenic structure.

The work is presented in Mexico City in three seasons:
28.03–19.04 · Teatro Orientación, CCB
23.04–03.05 · Teatro El Milagro
21.05–07.06 · Foro Santa Catarina, UNAM

Skulpt — PHACE Ensemble (Vienna)

This project marks my collaboration with PHACE Ensemble in Vienna, one of the leading groups in contemporary music. Skulpt is conceived as a work in which instrumental sound and mechanical elements coexist on stage, forming a single sonic and visual structure.
In this piece, I am interested in exploring continuity, repetition and suspended time, allowing small variations in texture and resonance to shape the listening experience. The presence of mechanical devices expands the ensemble into a hybrid body, where sound is produced, sustained and transformed beyond the traditional gesture of the performer.
The work unfolds as a space of concentration, where precision and fragility coexist, and where the relationship between sound, movement and perception becomes central.

Harry’s Bar - Nicholas Isherwood

Harry’s Bar is part of The Electric Voice — Nicholas Isherwood, a music theatre project that unfolds around voice, memory and presence. The piece draws from the atmosphere of Venice and the figure of Ernest Hemingway, not as a narrative, but as a space of resonance.

I am interested here in a more intimate dimension of sound — a voice that does not project outward, but remains close, almost internal. Fragments of text, silence and electronic textures coexist, creating a nocturnal landscape where time feels suspended.

More than telling a story, Harry’s Bar moves through states: solitude, memory, and the persistence of being. The performer inhabits this space not as a character, but as a presence — shifting between the personal and the imagined, between the bar, the sea, and the echo of a life lived.

Trümmerfeld (Debris Field)

Trümmerfeld (Debris Field) is conceived as a field of sound built from friction, weight and residue. Written for percussion quartet, chains and video, the piece explores a landscape in which sound emerges from contact: dragging, striking, resisting.

I am interested in the idea of the “fragment” — not as something broken, but as something that still carries energy. The materials used in the piece, both sonic and visual, suggest a body in transformation: slow, dense, and unstable.

Rather than constructing a linear form, the work unfolds as a space to inhabit, where time stretches and accumulates, and where each gesture leaves a trace. The performers engage physically with the material, generating a sound that is at once granular and monumental. The presence of Carla Fonseca adds a performative dimension that intensifies the physical and visual character of the work.

World Premiere: 13 February 2026 · Grande Auditório · Portimão, Portugal

El sueño de la razón produce monstruos

The Dream of Reason Produces Monsters. This work takes its point of departure from Goya’s Los Caprichos, and in particular from the tension between reason and the forces that emerge when it collapses. Rather than illustrating the image, the piece moves through states of instability, density and transformation.

Written for percussion and piano, the work is built on a highly physical and architectural approach to rhythm. Layers accumulate, intersect and fracture, creating a space where control and excess coexist. At moments, the music seems driven by an internal logic; at others, it drifts toward something more instinctive, almost uncontrollable.

I am interested in this threshold — where structure begins to dissolve and something darker, more ambiguous, takes over. The performers inhabit this tension, navigating between precision and risk, between construction and eruption.

World Premiere: 30 May 2026 · Festival de Sueca · Spain

2025. Microtonal harp by Julián Carrillo

On June 4th, I had the privilege of presenting REGRESO A AHUALULCO -  Return to Ahualulco -, my documentary-concert, at a remarkable venue: Ex Teresa Arte Actual in Mexico City.

I performed live on the microtonal harp tuned in sixteenth-tones, created by the visionary Julián Carrillo.
An unforgettable experience, filled with history and deep sonic textures by the recording of the microtonal pianos of Carrillo.
Thank you to everyone who made it possible and to those who shared that moment with me.
Just a few days earlier, on May 24th, I had presented the same work at the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), in a production by Música UNAM.

And a few months before that, the documentary premiered in San Luis Potosí, in a concert produced by the Secretaría de Cultura de San Luis Potosí.
More performances are scheduled throughout 2025 — stay tuned.

Documental Retorno a Ahualulco (2025)
now in YouTube

Arturo Fuentes, musica original, guión y dirección. Con Mariana Hijar, Rosario Ochoa y Don Saulo Vidal. Enero 2025.

This is a new work dedicated to the oboist Vicente Moronta. It will be premiered in a series of concerts in Switzerland and France. The use of multiphonics that fades into the rhythms, creates a cacophony of colors and a sometimes nervous and sometimes contemplative dramaturgy.
COSMIC SPACE new video (full version)

This work dedicated to the ALEPH Gitarrenquartett to celebrate its 30th anniversary, was premiered in October 2023 at the ZeitGenuss festival, Germany. Now we can see on YouTube the complete version.

HEAVY at the 3rd. Zurich Saxfest

Lars Mlekusch and his saxophone ensemble Zürich saxophone collektive / ZHdK Studierende presented HEAVY, composed in 2015, at the 3rd. Zurich Saxfest (14 April 2024).

Between stridencies and jazz orchestrations in the style of the nouvelle vague films of the 60's, HEAVY emerges: a work that projects an apparently improvised sound energy, where the saxophone orchestra takes center stage.
